Currency strength meters measure the relative performance of individual currencies across multiple pairs. Instead of analyzing one pair at a time, they show which currencies are broadly gaining or losing value.
For example, if USD is strengthening, you'd expect EUR/USD to fall, GBP/USD to fall, and USD/JPY to rise β all reflecting the same underlying dollar strength.
Most meters calculate strength by averaging the percentage change of all pairs containing that currency over a given period (e.g., the last 24 hours or the current session).
The cleanest trends occur when you pair the strongest currency against the weakest. Both sides of the trade work in your favor.
For example, if GBP is the strongest and JPY the weakest, GBP/JPY should offer the cleanest bullish setup. The pound is being bought broadly while the yen is being sold β creating confluence from both sides.
Avoid pairs where both currencies are strong or both are weak β these tend to produce choppy, directionless price action because the forces cancel out.
